Gender Wars

My elementary school aged granddaughter is the only girl in her family, so I had to laugh when I saw this sign on her bedroom door, especially the tagline, "My mom said."
At least where brothers are concerned, she's not in the mood for Valentine's Day!

A Christmas Carol with Mallory

If you thought you saw a scary Dickens' Ghost of Christmas Future in "A Christmas Carol" without seeing the Snow College production of 2018, then you may want to think again.
This was one creepy ghost, with my granddaughter Mallory and my sister Carolyn.
I was so happy to see Mallory in her performance at the college play. She auditioned, and got a part.

Is that a Hollywood face, or what?

(There are other Hollywood faces in my family, too, but this was Mallory's night.)

By pure chance, I was delighted to find that my seat was right next to Mallory's great grandma, Doreen Brugger! (And the auditorium wasn't even all the way full!)
Do you have a favorite Christmas play or movie?
What is it?
Why do you like it?

Six Year Old Fingernail Polish Style

When my six-year-old granddaughter asked to paint my fingernails, I said, "Sure." I've got nail polish remover if needed. It's all good.
But when she whipped out her impressively large bucket of paints, she ended up putting a different color on each fingernail.

I found it rather difficult to take a picture of all ten of my fingers by myself, since I am not acquainted withe the timed photo mechanism on my phone (that's technologically smarter than me) so I asked people to help document the occasion.

Then it turned out that I liked the look so much (I mean, it goes with EVERYTHING!) that when the art faded, I got myself some fingernail polish for my own palette and re-did the artwork.
Not knowing how long it takes nail polish to dry (UP TO TWO HOURS, PEOPLE!) I also managed to texturize my polish job, which felt weird when my fingers rubbed against certain textures.
Back to the nail polish remover.
There was also a problem with chipping a day or two after application.
Introduce clear top coat!
So now me and my new fingernail friends are having a colorful time heading into 2018.
What are you doing new for the new year?

Cutie Pie Birthday

This Cutie-Pie granddaughter of mine just turned 5!
I just love her imagination. Can you guess what she's holding? I asked her, and she was quick to reply. What does it look like to you? Come on, formulate a guess before you look ahead.
Ready?
What did you think of?
This is what my granddaughter said:
"They are my puppets."
Makes sense, doesn't it? You can put your finger in the end of a bitten pepper and say in a funny voice, "Hi, I'm Peppy, and I'm wearing a stem hat. Do you want a stem hat, too? Then go plant your feet in the ground and stand there for three months!"
What would your puppet say?
